MY FINANCIAL JOURNEY: Step 4

Understanding the Financial Aid process can be daunting to the average student or even their parents. Following the required procedures in the proper order is essential to making this endeavor easier though. Before any of the steps below can be completed, you must first complete and submit your FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) and then allow time for our office to send you further instructions. The entire SUM Financial Aid process (including Parent Plus or Verification requests) can potentially take 3-4 weeks and your financial aid must be solidified in advance to avoid you having to pay out of pocket.

Be sure not to jump steps and you'll be just fine.

Note: If you received for your "Award Disbursement Notification" from the Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO), then it's now time to continue. Otherwise, please wait for that email.
 

Step 4  ACCEPT . . .
MY AWARD FUNDS

Let's get's back to business. Students who choose to receive loans are now required to confirm their amounts in order to have the funds disbursed to SUM Bible College & Theological Seminary on their behalf. Please take your time to read to following details.

After receiving your Award Notification from VFAO, each student that chooses to receive loans is required to actively confirm that they are aware of the awarded amounts as well as the anticipated disbursement dates for the Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans before your funds can be released.

This may be done in two ways:

1. After receiving your VFAO Award Notification, via the email address submitted on your Student Interview, you must actively accept it by printing it, reviewing it and then stating “I have reviewed my financial aid award and actively accept the 2014-15 awarded type(s) and amount(s)”, sign and date the Award Notification and FAX it to the SUM Financial Aid Office at 510-567-6125 OR you can scan and email the document to financialaid@sum.edu after it has been signed and dated. If you wish to make any changes to the award, this is your opportunity to decline any amounts you may not need – be sure  to specify the type of award you are making changes to as well.

2. Through the VFAO website: https://sum.vfao.com by logging in with your User Name and Password and under the Student Interview Center section find the bold typed  Submitted Interviews heading and then select the “Student Financial Aid Status Report” link to view your award.  After reviewing your award in order to actively accept it you must click on the “Contact Us” link and in the message box state “I have reviewed my financial aid award and actively accept the 2014-15 awarded type(s) and amount(s)”. If you wish make any changes to the award this is your opportunity to decline any amounts you may not need – be sure to specify the type of award you are making changes to as well.
