MY FINANCIAL JOURNEY: Step 5
Understanding the Financial Aid process can be daunting to the average student or even their parents. Following the required procedures in the proper order is essential to making this endeavor easier though. Before any of the steps below can be completed, you must first complete and submit your FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) and then allow time for our office to send you further instructions. Visit our FAFSA Help Center for more information.
The entire SUM Financial Aid process (including Parent Plus or Verification requests) can potentially take 3-4 weeks and your financial aid must be solidified in advance to avoid you having to pay out of pocket.
Be sure not to jump steps and you'll be just fine.

Step 5 DETERMINE . . .
MY DEPENDENCY STATUS
If you're still in need of a little extra money for school, there's a special loan for dependent students under the age of twenty-four. It's called the Parent PLUS Loan.
Please note: Your loans are NOT contingent upon this being done. This step is only for dependent students who do not receive enough in loans to pay completely for their education.
The Parent Plus loan may be done at a later time after the students loan award has been determined and is a separate process that must be done with the parents information – NOT the students. Dependent students who receive loans must remember to also have their parents login and apply for the Parent PLUS loan on the www.studentloans.gov website. See the Parent PLUS Loan Instructions if you are a dependent student who is in need of additional funds.
